Ginger Tea for Pregnancy
Waiting for the baby is one of the most beautiful periods in a woman's life. However, often it is overshadowed by the attacks of toxicosis, the need to abandon the usual food, the fear to catch a viral infection. The ginger may help the pregnant women to cope with all these.

Ginger root is a true storehouse of vitamins and minerals that are necessary during pregnancy. The ginger may be used fresh and pickled, but more often the pregnant women are recommended to drink ginger tea.
In the first trimester of pregnancy, this aromatic sunny drink helps the expectant mothers to cope with morning sickness and vomiting, constipation and heartburn. Warm ginger tea is a real necessity for pregnant women or in case of colds, flu, bronchitis, and headache. Moreover, it strengthens the immune system and improves metabolism, reduces the risk of blood clots and restores energy. The pregnant women should drink ginger tea between their meals in the morning or in the afternoon, but in the evening drinking it is undesirable.
There are some important rules of making the ginger tea:
- If you are making a ginger tea to treat cold or flu, boil the ginger in water for 10 minutes in an open container.
- If you are using ground dried ginger instead of fresh grated one, reduce its amount by half and warm up the tea on a low heat for 20-25 minutes.
- Brew ginger tea in a thermos; leave the drink to draw for a few hours.
- The ginger tea may be also used as a soft drink. In this case, add the mint leaves, ice and sugar to taste.
The Best Recipes of Ginger Tea for Pregnant Women
Classic Fresh Ginger Tea From
Rub 1-2 tablespoons of fresh ginger root on a small grater and pour it with 200 ml of boiling water. Boil the drink on low heat for 10 minutes, tightly covered with a lid, and then remove it from heat and leave to draw for 5-10 minutes. Add 1-2 teaspoons of honey and mix. Drink tea before or after a meal in small sips.
If you have no fresh root, make ginger tea of ground ginger: pour 1/2 or 1/3 tablespoons of powder with 200 ml of boiling water, cover it and leave to draw for 3-5 minutes. Do not forget to add honey.
Ginger Tea With Lime
Slice a lime and peeled ginger, put the slices in a thermos or a jar, pour them with boiling water and leave for at least one hour.
Ginger Tea for Cold
Boil 1.5 liters of water, add 3-4 teaspoons of grated ginger, 5 tablespoons of honey and mix thoroughly. Pour 5-6 tablespoons of lemon or orange juice, wrap a jar with towel or pour the drink in a thermos, and leave it to draw for 30 minutes. Drink hot.
Traditional Ginger Tea
While making your favorite tea, add 2 teaspoons of grated ginger to it. Pouring a drink, add honey, a slice of lemon and a pinch of red pepper in a cup.
Ginger Tea for Cough
In case of dry cough, take grated ginger root, mix it with lemon juice and honey, pour with boiling water and leave for 20 minutes. In case of wet cough, use ginger, infused with hot milk (1-2 tablespoons of grated root per 200 ml of milk) with honey.
Who Should Not Use The Ginger?
The expectant mothers, of course, are concerned with the question: is it possible for pregnant women to drink ginger tea? Doctors do not recommend using ginger if you suffer from digestive system diseases (ulcers, colitis, esophageal reflux) or cholelithiasis. Ginger root may cause blood pressure rise in pregnant women, and premature contractions, so do not drink ginger tea in the second half of pregnancy. In reasonable doses, the ginger tea during pregnancy may help you feel better and cope with some of the problems of this difficult period.
