Exclude all foods that relax the esophageal sphincter: strong tea and coffee, chocolate, spices, fried, spicy foods and foods rich in fat. Eat often but small portions. Don’t drink anything while having meals.

Avoid foods that increase the acidity in the stomach. Don’t lie down! Try to go for walk to have some fresh air after eating. You can have rest in 1-2 hours after eating. Put a pillow underneath your back to keep your body elevated to prevent the stomach acid from going up to the gullet.

You can help yourself by exchanging regular tea and coffee to herbal teas and infusions. Try chewing gum, as it will increase the saliva production, which will neutralize the acid. Also, ask your doctor for a trusted solution to eliminate bad taste in the mouth.

Some future moms find it helpful to drink water with a bit of baking soda in it. Others drink potato juice to relief the discomfort. Another solution is chewing calamus root. Still, the best way is to start with addressing the issue to your doctor.
